What Are Herbal Tinctures?
Herbal tinctures are liquid extracts crafted by infusing medicinal plant material in alcohol. This process extracts the plant's bioactive compounds, capturing their therapeutic properties in a concentrated form. Tinctures offer a versatile way to incorporate herbs into your daily routine, allowing you to experience their benefits with just a few drops.
Choosing the Right Alcohol
When crafting herbal tinctures, the choice of alcohol matters. Opt for a 80 proof + alcohol, like vodka or brandy, which efficiently extracts the plant's constituents. The alcohol also acts as a preservative, extending the shelf life of your tincture. Theres a bit of cultural preference and art in creating tinctures with certain types of alcohol. Get creative.

The Art of Brewing
Creating an herbal tincture is a blend of science and intuition. Begin by finely chopping or grinding your chosen herb to increase its surface area. Fill a glass jar a third of the way with the dried herb (loosely fill the jar if using fresh herb). The alcohol should fully cover the plant material. Seal the jar tightly and let the magic unfold. Let it brew for a minimum of 4 weeks. Shake the jar daily. As the days pass, watch as the alcohol transforms into a vibrant hue, absorbing the herb's essence.
